Happy Wednesday,

Welcome to this week’s edition of:

A View from the Hill

This is your weekly memo on all that is going on at the Park Hill Raquet Club this week. Since today, May 21st, is National Memo Day, the ViewMaster dedicates this edition to KMJI Majic Radio, the Memo Day’s founder.

This coming weekend is Memorial Day, many fun activities are taking place at the club so let’s dive in:

Memorial Day BBQ and Porch Karaoke:

The big kickoff event of the Club’s year.  E-vites have been sent (don’t forget to RSVP).  The festivities start off at 2:00 PM with Porch Karaoke, followed with a traditional Memorial Day BBQ of burgers and dogs, along with the always delicious cornucopia of sides and deserts provide by our members.  What a great way to kick off the new year and re-engage with your fellow members whom you might not have seen since the waning days of summer last September.

Keep an eye out for our new members who have joined the club over the winter months,  Sergio Vasquez, Elizabeth Pereira, Laura and Albert Cruz, Ellen Vendito, Christine Burns & Michael Miller, Blair Hoffman, Danille Swick and Lois Forestieri.  When you see them give them a big PHRC HELLO

A more formal welcome to our new members will take place later in June with the annual New Member’s Cocktail Party, more info on that as it gets closer.

OPEN HOUSE:

Last weekends Open House saw tours of the property by perspective members.  This Weekend we will have our third and final Open House, Sunday May 25th between 2 and 4.  Spread the word to those friends and neighbors who have yet to discover this gem of a club we call home.  Bring them along for an introductory tour of our facilities and let them discover the joys of “Porch Karaoke”.

TENNIS:

The courts have been busy, lots of matches happening on our wonderful Red Clay courts.  This Sunday May 25th will be the annual Memorial Day Fun Tournament. Sunday May 25th at 9:30 AM.  If you haven’t signed up, RSVP thru the e-vite sent out earlier.

Wednesday’s DROP IN games continue, so check the tennis Google Sheet to sign up for a pick up game.

In tennis league news out MITL and WCTL teams are still battling, working their way up their respective standings chasing the league leaders.  To give them encouragement not to stop chasing, I remind them on May 21, 1980, 35 years ago, Wile E. Coyote finally caught the Road Runner, so there is hope (Bonus points to those who knew the “E” in Wile E. Coyote  stands for Ethelbert).  Come out and cheer on the WITL home match Tuesday may 27th at 9:30 against Chappaqua S&T.

PIZZA & TRIVIA NIGHT:

Friday May 23rd at 7:00 PM.  Take all cash prize a fun filled trivia completion with a winner.  Of Park Hill show off your arcane knowledge base and be crowned trivia king.  Hmmmmmm.   Sorry, must have slipped into Yoda Speak, probably because today is “National Speak Like a Yoda Day” (In honor of the 1980 Premier of The Empire Strikes Back)

Let me try this again:

A fun filled trivia completion with a winner take all cash prize.  Show off your arcane knowledge base and be crowned Trivia King of Park Hill.  Win or lose, there will be pizza to sate your hunger, and the Members lounge will be open to quench your thirst.

POOL:

The pool opens this Saturday.  Thanks to all who stopped by last Saturday to make the pool as gorgeous as it does.  The pool is scheduled to be open form 11 AM to 7 PM Saturday, Sunday and Monday, weather permitting.  As always, swimmers will be watched over by our excellent team of American Red Cross certified Lifeguards (an appropriate note since today is the anniversary of Clara Barton’s founding of the Red Cross in 1881).

Unfortunately, Memorial Day falls very early this year, and the weekend forecast is calling for cooler temperatures, make sure you keep your eyes peeled to your inbox for opening updates before you pack up your swim suit and floaties and head over for a dip.

Also keep an eye out for the Pool Committee’s e-mail with pool procedures, rules, and programs.

KIDS ART DAY:

Kid’s Art Day is this Saturday (May 24th) at 4 PM.  For a $15 event fee our youngsters will produce 2 pieces of art under the direction of our resident artists.  One piece to bring home to brighten their homes, the second piece to decorate the new Kid’s Room, making it even more of a place of their own.  Don’t forget to RSVP to the e-vite to the event.

BOOK CLUB:

The book club is having their event Thursday May 22nd.  This month’s book is the 1865 Lewis Carrol’s classic Alice in Wonderland.  Please contact Claire Miko (clarabell711@aol.com)  if you are interested and want to get on the Book Club e-mails.

And finally,

A SHOUT OUT TO THE PARK HILL PLAYERS:

The Park Hill Players production of Sylvia (Under the direction of our very own Karin White and Mary Kay Moment) concluded there run with jammed pack Sunday Matinee.  Over 50 friends. family, and neighbors enjoying the closing afternoon performance, a record setting matinee audience.

Well as usual, The ViewMaster has rambled on long enough for one day, so I will bring this to a close by once again encouraging you to keep those comments and suggestions coming to PHRCView@gmail.com.

Hope to see you around the club,

The ViewMaster
