Happy Wednesday,
Welcome to this week’s edition of:
A View from the Hill
This is your weekly memo on all that is going on at the Park Hill Raquet Club this week.
As the closing days of May are upon us, June beckons. We get to look forward to the month that has the most hours of daylight then any other, giving us all more time to play tennis, lay around the pool or just sit back on the porch enjoying hours of sunshine. June starts this coming Sunday. What you might not realize, it is the only month this year that start on a Sunday, fun facts no extra charge here in the View.
The MEMORIAL DAY RECAP:
This past weekend saw many fun activities at Park Hill. The Porch Karaoke and BBQ, the Fun Round Robin Tourney, the Pizza and Trivia Night were all well attended. It was great to see all the members, that returned to the club after the winter hibernation reuniting with fellow members. In May all over New York we see the return of numerous migratory animals, as spring migration reaches its peak, the membership seems to have channeled their inner hummingbirds and songbirds as they returned to their “Home on the Hill”. Welcome back everyone!
TENNIS:
Our Sunday afternoon Fun Round Robin series kicks off this Sunday June 1st at 4PM. A great opportunity for new members to meet other players and friends at the club, and for old friends to play tennis together. Drop a line to parkhillracquetclub@gmail.com to get on the list. So come out and have some fun and embrace the fun nature of the event by embracing June 1st’s Say Something Nice Day
Our tennis teams continue to battle against their Westchester compaction. Take some time out of your busy week and see their efforts this week as two out of our three teams are playing home matches this week:
Sunday June 1st at 11:30AM the Smooth division hosts the Pelham Country Club At Racquet Club at Park Hill. On Tuesday June 3rd at 9:30 our tied for second, MITL team hosts Orienta on our envied Red Clay courts.
As a reminder, if you are interested in joining these teams, it is not to late. Just e-mail Westy at tomwestconsult@aol.com. Also, Westy is still accepting request to join the over 50 league which starts up later in June. He assures me he won’t ask how much OVER 50 you are.
Also, next week find the wonderful opportunity to save some money. Free Tennis Guests!! Monday June 2nd through Sunday June 8th we are promoting our club by opening our courts to guests. Members may bring guests for free during that week, subject to the regular club policy that a single guest may play on the courts no more than two times per month (with a limit of eight times for the season).
PICKLEBALL:
Just because the tennis courts are open doesn't mean pickleball ends. Always a great way to hone your racquet skills and enjoy the company of your fellow members, and the best part is the court is always dry! If you are interested in being on the Pickleball e-mail distribution list, please reach out to Karin Skalina at k.skalina@gmail.com to join in the fun.
POOL:
Last weekend’s weather didn’t have the pool hopping with swimmers, although rumors abound about a group of our younger members plunging into the frigid water during the BBQ. God bless youth!
The pool will be open this coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM as we continue our early June weekend only pool hours. Later in June, when the school year comes to an end, we will start our full schedule of pool days. Keep an eye out for info from the pool committee. Also take a moment to review the Pool Committees e-mail of May 22nd where they detail all the pool policies and procedures. Please take special note of making sure that when you bring a guest you enter their full name in the digital check in system.
MEMBER”S LOUNGE:
And don’t forget that our lovely Member’s Lounge is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for your enjoyment. If it is a cool drink with friends after a grueling tennis match (perhaps debating the wisdom of trying that missed drop shot in the pivotal last game) or stopping by in the afternoon to watch the French Open on TNT, allow Vivian, Anthony, and Vinny serve up your favorite libation. Members Lounge hours are Friday, May 30 6:00 – 10:00pm, Saturday, May 31 1:00 – 8:00pm, and Sunday, June 1 12:00 – 8:00pm.
That is it for this week’s, A View from the Hill. Hope to see you around the club,
The ViewMaster
PS: Wondering how many of you opened up your calendars to see if June really is the only month that starts on Sunday (grin)
