Happy Wednesday and welcome to this week’s edition of:
A View from the Hill
There is a lot goings-on on the Hill this week, so many events and activities you can splurge on. Which is a good thing considering today is National Splurge Day!! Let’s jump right in to the events and goings-on this week:
POOL:
It is here!! Th pool is now open EVERY day for the summer. Just in time for the Summer Solstice this Friday when we enjoy the longest hours of daylight for the year. What better way to spend all extra time in out glorious pool.
While you enjoy the crystal-clear water, the freshly painted pools surface, the cleaned up areas, umbrellas and all the accoutrements, give a thanks to our illustrious pool committee, Pam Opdyke, Casey Quinn, Karin White and all the members that leant there time and effort to make this the oasis from the heat we have come to love.
And talking about making the pool the perfect place to beat the heat, allow me to take a moment to introduce our 2025 Lifeguards who make out pool safe. These American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards are dedicated to making sure everyone stays safe when using the pool. Without further ado, here is our team:
Aileen Farelly (who is in her sixth season with us),
Eavan Coffey (in her fourth season),
Pierce Coffey & Emmett Tucker (both returning for their third year),
Gabby Castillo-Lopez & Nox White Krawiec (both returning from last season),
and our trio of new faces, Kate Comar, Rudy Martinez, and junior guard, Olivia Quinn.
Be sure to say hello, but just a short hello, since their focus is on the pool and the swimmers.
Pool hours this week are 3PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 11AM on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
BOWLING:
The Bowling Awards Dinner is this Thursday (June 19th). The end of the winter league season features party sandwiches salads and appetizers along with the award ceremonies for our wonderful keglers. Not a member of the bowling league this winter, no worries, bowlers are a welcoming bunch, reach out to Jon Wallen (jwall41@aol.com) for more info.

TENNIS:
Our three current leagues are wrapping up their seasons. The Smooth Division, Sticky Divisions (BTW who comes up with these names?) as well as the WITL team are in the final rounds. The Sticky Team will be home on Junday June 22nd at 11:30 AM vs. Pelham Country Club Come sheer out players. Don’t forget PHRC fields an “Over 50” team that starts in late June. If interested just e-mail Westy at tomwestconsult@aol.com. And no worries, no one will ask “How far over 50”?
Play during the week continues to be active, don’t forget to schedule your times with the club’s google sheet (TENNIS RESERVATION SHEET. If you find it a bit difficult to find a match, now worries, the tennis committee has you covered, just click the tab “looking ofr a game ” on the reservation sheet and bing, bang, boom you will be connected! This Saturday, the Men's and Women's Competitive Singles Tournament takes pace starting at 8:30AM. What better way to start the weekend then bringing a cup a joe and some donuts to the porch to watch some our best men and women compete on our glorious clay courts.
There is of course a Sunday Round Robin this, and every Sunday, but there is NO NEED to sign up in advance, just show up with your racquet and join in the fun. A special note about this week, the tourney will only go to 5:30 instead of its regular 6 PM end time because, as the committee told me, “the clay courts need their magic floor wax/dessert topping (that's an old SNL reference) applied with the roller”.
The Ladies Round Robin was canceled last Saturday, but the tennis committee working on a new date (perhaps after this heat wave passes). When I get the new date, I will sure to pass it along.
KIDS ART DAY: Our second Kid’s Art Day is next Friday(June 27th). For a $15 event fee our youngsters will produce 2 pieces of art under the direction of our resident artists. One piece to bring home to brighten their homes, the second piece to decorate the new Kid’s Room, making it even more of a place of their own. Don’t forget to RSVP to the e-vite.
MEMBER’S LOUNGE:Our wonderful Member’s Lounge like our pool is now into 7 day a week operation starting at 3PM Monday thru Friday and 1PM on Saturday and Sunday. So, if you are stopping by to watch a tennis match, pre-gaming for the bowling dinner, or needing a refreshing libation as you lounge around the pool, allow our trio of bartenders to concoct you a cocktail or a satisfying soft drink .
As to correcting the typos (and inserting the words left out), well there are not enough electrons left to list them all here. Suffice to say, the members who helped the pool committee in beautifying our pool area, didn’t “Leant” their time against a wall, they “Lent” a much need hand in getting things done. Also contrary to my column, the Sticky team will not be playing on the made-up day of “Junday” but rather on Sunday.
I hope you enjoy the weekly ramblings about upcoming events (grammatical errors and typos notwithstanding). Please continue to keep me on my toes by pointing out the errors to me at PHRCView@gmail.com.
For now, I am going to embrace National Martini Day, and enjoy a well-deserved cocktail from our wonderful Member’s Lounge and reread my well-worn edition of Strunk and White’s Elements of Style on the porch. Hoping to see you on The Hill,
Looking forward to seeing you on The Hill,
The ViewMaster
