Tennis News

  • After enjoying a continental breakfast, 12 teams of mixed doubles competed round-robin style in the Fun Tennis Tournament.  A tied score in one division led to a tiebreak between Daphne Romeo&Paul Cecere against Ann Marie Ennis & Deane Prouty.  Anne Marie and Deane went on to the finals against Kathryn Buckley and Westy (new member Tom Westmoreland) with Kathryn and Westy winning the tournament.  Congratulations to all our finalists!  We thank Patty Cecere and Claire Miko for providing the spread of food, figuring out the team pairings, and running the tournament.

  • Around 24 people attended this year's Indoor Tennis Party.  It was marked by a large "injured reserve" group.  Wendy's having elbow issues, Deane had surgery, Chuck has tennis elbow, Beth has a bad shoulder.  And Patty had a "bum" finger.  Oh the moans and groans were everywhere!

Those who did get to play had a fabulous four hours to get off their "tennis rocks".  Those who didn't had a fun time observing and chatting.

Wendy put together yet another great night of tennis, (of which we have come to expect every winter)!  Thanks, Wendy!

  • A late season Tennis Awards Brunch was  held on Sunday October 25th.  Prizes were presented to all the winners of our tournaments in 2009.  Claire, Wendy and Patty C. laid out a nice spread of bagels, lox, muffins, and quiche.  Paul Cecere displayed all the wearable items with club logos– tees, visors, hats – and our winners selected their choices of prizes.  Our deepest thanks go to our tennis committee for all their hard work this season.

  • Our Labor Day Men's and Women's Doubles Tournament had a great turnout and plenty of surprises!

In the men’s division, Richard Haas and Dan O'Connell won first place over Deane Prouty and Chris Canty.  For the women the winners were Susan Moscou and Mary Liberatore with second place taken by Kathryn Buckley and Dana Olin.

Congratulations go to all our winners!

  • After a one week rain delay our Mixed Doubles Tournament was held on a beautiful, sunny, cool September morning.  Seven teams played in a one-set elimination format.  (Losers got plenty of tennis in playing several sets with one another afterwards!)  A continental breakfast filled and fueled our hungry competitors.

It all came down to an evenly matched final between Claire Miko/Jon Wallen and Patty Cecere/Mike Smith.  Claire and Jon took the first set 6-2; Patty and Mike took the second set 6-2!  A full third set was played - resulting in a tie, of course.  Claire and Jon finally won 9-7 in the tiebreak.   It was well-fought and enjoyable for all the spectators.  Congratulations go to both the winners and runners up!

We thank Patty Cecere and Claire Miko for organizing the tournament;  our thanks go to Paul Cecere for picking up the breakfast food!
