  • An enthusiastic crowd of forty came out for another rousing Karaoke Night this February.  Of course the “regulars” – Westy, Donna V., Paul C., Joe H., Karin and Matt, Larry, Greg, not to mention Claire and the girls…all sang fabulously.  Bartender Tim did a very Sinatraesque rendition of “Let’s Fly Away”.  Scotty came forward late in the evening to croon “What’s Your Name?”.  Speaking of “Late in the Evening”, Jill 'blew the house away' singing (and dancing to) Paul Simon's tune.  But the biggest highlight of the evening was Jose Alvarado, who wowed us with a fabulous voice singing “La Bamba” and serenading his lovely wife Karla with “Wonderful Tonight”.    Thanks go to Patty Gamba for her expert organization of the night!

  • An intimate group of 25 adults and kids gathered to taste 7 chili entries at our 4th Annual Chili Cook Off.  About seven unmarked* entries competed.  There were plenty of fixins' to dress up the chilis - chopped onions, cheeses, sour cream and a Mexican-style sour cream "la crema".  A side of guacamole and chips helped cleanse the palate between tastings.  A selection of scrumptious after-dinner sweets finished off the evening.

William Krawiec and Larry Feldman tied for 1st Place with Paul Cecere's chili getting 2nd (well, technically it's 3rd). The winning chili chefs were awarded their decorated Tocques (or chef's hats for those of you unfamiliar with the vernacular).  Our deepest thanks go to Karin White for doing everything - organizing, setting up and cleaning too! - and thereby giving us a fun event to look forward to each winter!

*Paul's recipe was accompanied by a waiver (drawn up by friend Joe Harbeson, Esq.) denying the club's responsibility for any and all reactions to the heat generated by all those hot peppers!  So thanks for spilling the beans, Joe.  (No pun intended.)

  • Super Bowl 44 was a resounding success with around fifty members and guests in attendance. Crab cakes, lasagna, chili and an excellent chocolate cake were among the many dishes provided by the members and their guests.
It was a thrilling game with the winning team making a last minute interception and running it back for a touchdown and an insurmountable lead.   First time participants in the Super Bowl, the New Orleans Saints won the game.

  • Four of our families participated in a Summer Sleepover on July 10th, complete with tents set up in the club’s ballroom. It proved to be both an intimate and memorable event. At dusk some parents hung out at the bar, no doubt to gather courage before sleeping on the floor, and they may have imagined that 5 fairies were dancing around in the lounge ... or were they girls in their nightgowns, playing tag?

In the moonlight with the sounds of crickets and giggling children intertwined, The Savards resided in their own 'Mansion' tent; Raquel Negron and her mom Liz installed themselves on the large red tumbling mat; Quentin and Kees slept together in their small tent with mom at arms' length; and the Fitzgerald family huddled together on a few layers of comforters. The temperature was just right. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast together... and later that day, a nap, for some. We are proposing to do this again on Friday September 4th, which is the last Friday before school starts. Please contact Hestia (parkhillplaygroup@gmail.com or 917-696-4932) if you want to join us so we can have enough breakfast supplies! Thanks go to Hestia and Steve for organizing.

  • There was a small but mighty group that met at the club one December evening to roll, cut and bake gingerbread cookies. In attendance were Hestia, Patty S, Liz Malave, Susan Proano, Susanne Savard, Dorota, and new members Chris and Christine Kiernan. All was done in preparation for what turned out to be a great Cookie and Cocoa Party. There were
about 30 kids and almost as many adults in attendance!

The kids socialized, had snacks and then hunkered down for the cookie decorating. After all were satisfied with their candy and cookie concoctions, Dave Steck and Kieran Michael Brown broke out the guitars and sang Christmas carols. They were accompanied by Karin White, Hestia, Teddy and Toby Wardell, Owen and Matilde Steck, and Sebastian Proano. Rachel Negron, AmyAlvarado, Grace Proano and others gathered in for a rocking version of Feliz Navidad. Sabrina Tahir and Morgan Buckley donned red aprons and baked, prepared, cleaned and entertained the kids. Madison Moment joined in later to play games with the kids. The parents snacked, mingled and had cocktails at the lower bar. It was a warm and festive event. Our thanks go to all who helped, worked and coordinated to make it a fabulous day.
